I hate shopping. No, let me rephrase that. I hate spending money and thus, hate shopping. I'll spend lots of money on other people, but never on myself. So when my Mom offered to come along and bring a 30% off coupon to Kohls, I was all over it!
She works from home 2 days a week so on her lunch break we headed out to get birthday presents. I knew what I wanted and found it pretty fast. I got Jimmy the 12" Bobby Flay cast iron skillet. It weighs a ton. Being cooking illiterate I have absolutely no idea what Jimmy intends on using this thing for. Chasing me around the house like a cartoon house-wife? Maybe.
Mom wanted to get my dad a cast iron dutch oven because he badly wanted to be able to cook beef bourguignon which requires a heavy pot to cook slowly in. She found the Paula Deen cookware and fell in love. OMG it is all so cute and country it makes me want to make chicken fried steak... however you would make that... This is the dutch oven she chose in a beautiful burnt orange.
Since the Paula Deen cookware was on sale and she had that wonderful little coupon in hand, she also picked up this HUGE box filled with pots and pans.
"What's that for, Mom?"
"You of course! Your birthday is coming up and I know you and Jimmy need a nice set."
Holy cow! She got me the 12-piece porcelain-enamel nonstick set in this beautiful speckled blue with copper accents. I couldn't wait to take it to Jimmy's and maybe attempt to learn to cook more than spaghetti. I do cook a mean from-scratch alfredo sauce actually.
So here we are in the kitchen section of Kohls with our arms full and she turns and then says this: "So I think I'm going to get Jimmy a new tv stand. The one he has now is just silly and it's pretty much falling apart." True, it is falling apart but she doesn't need to buy him a whole new one. But once my mom gets an idea in her head there's no talking her out of it. So after making our purchases and dropping them off in the car we headed to Target to see what they had for tv stands.
Once inside we immediately found a perfect one that matches his side table exactly. The price tag was a bit high though. After looking around at the other options she decides to buy it for both Jimmy's and my birthday combined, and wait to give me the cooking set till Christmas.

I came out of a shopping trip to buy Jimmy a present with gifts for myself because of the generosity of my mother. Thanks Mom! I love you!!
So Jimmy and I no longer will need to register for pots and pans unless he decides he wants some special thing I have no idea exists that didn't come in the set. We also won't have the task of buying a new TV stand when his ultimately decides to fall over.
I told you October was a good month!
