Jimmy Danced In The Aisles

Yesterday afternoon Jimmy came home about an hour early from work, and would not have to go back in until Monday. Taking advantage of his availability, I asked him if he wanted to go register on Thursday. His response? "Do you just want to go now?"

So last night we started a gift registry at Bed Bath & Beyond. We first walked into the store not knowing that the registry desk was located by the china so at first we just stood around waiting for someone to help us at customer service. Within a minute a guy walks up to us and asks, "bridal registry?" We laugh and nod and he replies "Ha! How did I know!? It's in the back by the china." That made Jimmy happy that someone was so friendly right from the start. I think he may have been a little apprehensive to jump into registering without a clue of what we really need for our house.

So we make it back there and go through everything with our consultant and she's ready to pass off the scanner. "Who gets to be in charge of this?" I point to Jimmy and his face just lights up! I'm handed a clipboard with a checklist of everything they carry in the store that you're supposed to get... deep fryer? Really? And we're off!

At first Jimmy doesn't want to scan anything. "We already have glasses" or "We can get by with the ones we got handed down from friends." Ok I guess I need to explain something before we really can get anything done here. I told him that "yes, we already have most everything we need, but I'd like to upgrade most of it since it is all hand-me-downs. Now they're great for now, but you've got to look further into the future than just October. These are thing we'll probably still have many years from now."

From that point on I had to keep an eye on what Jimmy was scanning. We mutually picked out new dishes and flatware, but if Jimmy saw something he liked, it was scanned. He was literally dancing around the place with his little gun. We had a blast.

We made a big dent after about 2 hours and decided to stop for the night. I could not be more please at how our first registering experience went.

I am a little worried with how it may go in the future though. Our consultant told us that we should register for 3 times as many gifts as we have guests. Um... that will be next to impossible since the count when we left BB&B was at 66 items and we pretty much covered everything we really need. 250x3=750!!! I don't think I'll be taking her advise, but I know we should try to get a few more items on the list. There are even some things I jotted down at home after going over the BB&B checklist that I'll have to go back and add.

I'm hoping to do another gift registry at either Macy's, Target, or Crate and Barrel. It would be awesome if Home Depot did bridal registries... Jimmy would go to town!

Glad he liked it! I am not sure what Robbie will think. He told me before, "you can just go and get everything you want." Well that is not going to happen, but he just hates shopping and I feel bad for him to have to do it for so long, but it's just one of those things he has to do haha!

Sounds like fun! I wouldn't register for much more at BB&B, and register for some nicer things at a place like Crate and Barrel. You NEVER need as many as they tell you!
