A Family of 3?

Last week Jimmy and I went through a serious discussion about adding a new member to our little family. Right now it's just Jimmy and I in the house, and since my family dog passed away after 18 years in April of 2009, I've been longing for a puppy to love. Jimmy's never had a dog before and was hesitant toward bringing one home, but loves our friends' dogs so was open to the idea of having one of his own.

We talked about it all last week and finally on Friday we decided that if we could find a puppy we both loved we would go for it. Well I found him during a search on petfinder.com. He's a mutt... a mix of Pointer, Australian Shepherd, and whatever else his parents were. They even said they weren't sure how big he'd grow up to be. Anywhere from 20-70 lbs. For us, the bigger the better. At 8 weeks old he was the cutest thing ever. I showed him to Jimmy and we agreed to visit him in the shelter.

I called the shelter to make sure he was still there since who knows how often the website is updated. The guy that answered immediately said that the puppy we wanted had already been adopted. Another family brought him home to love.

I was sad but strangely ok with not getting him. I decided to stop the hunt for our puppy. The internet wasn't the place for me to find one, so if we happen to visit a shelter one day and find a puppy we fall in love with, then it's meant to be.

I do see a dog in our future, but I don't know how far in the future that is.
