Yummy

This past Sunday Jimmy, my mom, and I went to Cog Hill for our tasting for dinner. I was a bad blogger and didn't take any pictures... too distracted by food.

The day before I called them to request the two dishes we would be trying. One was their "specialty" which was chicken breast and beef tenderloin. The second was Chicken En Brochette.

First up was soup. Their signature soup is French Onion. In my life I've had good French Onion and bad. This French onion was amazing. We would be given a choice of soups, but this was what we were served for the tasting.

After we all devoured the soup they brought out the salads. Just a standard side salad with the choice of catalina or ranch dressing.

Between the salad and main course all of our guests will get a small portion of lime sorbet. I'd never had this done at a fancy restaurant, but it was almost like the sorbet made me feel more hungry and ready for dinner. Normally I'd feel full after soup and salad. I hope our guests like this!

Next up were the two main dishes.

The specialty beef tenderloin was served medium rare and perfect, the chicken breast was covered with a lemon butter sauce, and on the side was a baked potato and mixed vegetables. I didn't find anything special about this dish. The beef was delicious, but it's beef tenderloin... it's gonna be delicious if cooked the right way. The chicken was kinda blah, and the potato was just a potato.

The Chicken En Brochette came served over rice which had a kind of sweet and sour sauce. "en brochette" means on a skewer, and that's just what it was. A delicious skewer of chicken, tomatoes, onion, and mushrooms. This dish was also served with a side of mixed vegetables.

Hands down the Chicken En Brochette was the winner. It was delicious, and something I think all of our guests will enjoy. Plus it's not something you see at a typical wedding. We decided to go with a minestrone soup even though we loved the French onion. We figured more people would enjoy minestrone since French onion is such an acquired taste.

So hopefully our guests will have full happy tummies, and will be ready to dance the night away after dinner!

Yum! Everything sounds so good! And a sorbet "to cleanse the palette"? Sounds fancy!
