Last night I decided to tackle the table assignments for the reception. I was dreading this part of planning. I've heard and read about horror stories from past brides how seating assignments were the bane of their existence. Luckily I avoided any hair pulling. Wanna know how?
First thing I did was I held onto all of the RSVP cards I had received in the mail from our guests. I'm a very visual learner, so I know if I had something concrete to work with, things would go much easier. Having the cards allowed me to physically move names around to different tables.
I grouped the cards into as many piles as I could based on Jimmy's and my family and friends. I had a pile for my cousins, his aunts' families, his parents' camping friends, etc. Made things as detailed as I could get.
Our seating arrangement. The tables we will be using are all the ones with the check marks. There will be tables of 6, 8, 10, or 18 guests.
Then I busted out all those extra invitation envelopes I had laying around the house. I seriously have over 120 large envelopes that I can't figure out what to do with. I designated an envelope to each table. I wrote the table number and how many guests will fit at that table. When I grouped enough guests for a table, I took those RSVP cards and put them in the envelope that matched their table.
If I needed to move someone, all I had to do was remove the card for the envelope and put it in a new one. When Jimmy saw my method he asked where I had gotten this idea. He was impressed that I thought of it on my own since many of my ideas have come from other sources.
With Jimmy's help we finished in an hour. I was astonished at how easy it was... though still crossing my fingers that something will come up and everything will have to change.

Great plan!! I delegated 1/2 of my guest list out to my FMIL. She took that side of the family and I only had 7 tables left to do on my own.
