We have 20 rooms reserved at the SprintHill Suites by Marriot. It's an all-suites hotel that was renovated in 2007. If we book 10 rooms our guests get a free shuttle to and from Cog Hill, and Jimmy and I will receive champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. If we book 20 rooms Jimmy's and my room will be complimentary. We got a great deal for the rooms at $109 for each suite.
The other hotels I called were unwilling to give us a discount and had a lot of contingencies. SprillHill almost sounded too good to be true! No minimum stay requirement, the discount applies even after our block is released to the public 28 days before the wedding, and free breakfast!
When I first started looking into blocking rooms I didn't know where to start. Luckily I follow the 'bee and Miss Starfish wrote a post that included important questions to ask when calling hotels.
These are the questions from her list that I asked each hotel representative I talked to:
- Is there a limit/minimum to the number of rooms I can book?
- If the original block is filled, can more rooms be booked in the future?
- Is there a group discount rate?
- What happens if we do not fill all the rooms we block? Is there a charge?
- Is there a deadline for when rooms need to be booked by our guests?
- Is there a minimum night stay requirement?
- Do you offer transportation to and from the reception?
And today marks exactly 6 months till the wedding!!!
