Debbie Downer

Today I got my first negative reaction to the engagement. I was working at The Disney Store, and my friend Renee came in for her shift at 3. I hadn't seen her in forever because we don't get many hours lately. We were catching up on stage, and I brought up the engagement. She scrunched up her face and said less than enthusiastically, "oh... really?" I explained how excited I was, but her attitude didn't change. At first I was thrown, but quickly shrugged it off.

Renee had been married before and went through a bad divorce. She has 4 kids, and works multiple jobs to keep her family taken care of. She is in a 7 year relationship and loves her boyfriend a lot, but has no plans to remarry.

Honestly, her reaction didn't bother me because I was expecting it from her. She's always been jaded toward marriage and there's nothing I can say to change her mind. All I know is that I am thrilled to be getting hitched, and I know Jimmy and I will have a happy life together. Realistically challenging, but happy.
